01 / Brief
A family with a new electric car wanted to charge overnight on a cheap tariff, with the charger on the front of the house by the drive.
02 / Challenge
The 1990s consumer unit had no spare way and the earthing arrangement needed checking before a charger could be fitted outdoors.

03 / Solution
- Load assessment against the 100 A main fuse
- Dedicated circuit from a new RCBO, in armoured cable along the brickwork
- 7.4 kW tethered smart charger with built-in protection
- Off-peak schedule set up in the app with the owner
04 / Result
Charging from 0–80% overnight on the off-peak window. The cable run sits on the line of the mortar joints, so it's barely visible.
